SNP Security has purchased a major shareholding in Gated Solutions, a leading Australian provider of Perimeter Security Solutions and traffic control systems.

The company specialises in the manufacture, supply, installation, service and maintenance of automated security products including high security cantilevered sliding gates, swing gates, boom gates, turnstiles, and pedestrian gates for the government and business sectors.

SNP Managing Director, Tom Roche, says it was a strategic move to acquire Gated Solutions extends SNP’s security services, which now include CCTV, access control, perimeter fencing and gate security personnel and equipment, as well as the gate hardware itself.

“This acquisition ensures SNP is the number one full service, integrated security company in Australia,” says Tom.

“Culturally, it’s as great a fit for our company as it is commercially, as Gated Solutions is also a family owned company with family values.

“Together, we’re the total turnkey security solution.

“Not only can we now offer everything from manpower and electronic security to perimeter portal solutions, but we also have the ability to manufacture specialised products for specialty physical security needs.”

Gated Solutions’ products are especially suitable for mining and other critical infrastructure projects, such as airports, prisons, power stations and embassies. Other government buildings, water treatment plants, food manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, secure residential properties and commercial or industrial developments will also benefit from the one-stop-shop security solution that SNP and Gated Solutions now provide.

A large number of SNP’s existing clients are already users of the products manufactured by Gated Solutions, including the Harbour City project in Papua New Guinea.

Gated Solutions will operate partly as a stand-alone business, with relevant operational aspects to be integrated with SNP.

“Financially, our acquisition of Gated Solutions is a strong move, as their products are recognised in the Australian market as being a premium quality product, locally made and locally supported with the ability to be installed anywhere nation-wide,” says Tom.

SNP Security’s Aviation division has had a major win! We’ve been appointed to provide security solutions for the new Canberra Airport terminal. The win bolsters SNP’s reputation as Australia’s leading developer of advanced technology airport security and pre-eminent provider of passenger screening services, with four decades of experience at Sydney Airport.

Canberra Airport is undergoing a $330 million upgrade, incorporating a new terminal, retail area and expanded car park.
The contract for Canberra Airport includes the supply and installation of the sophisticated Cardax Access Control system. Also being installed is the state-of-the-art Avigilon CCTV system for which SNP won the ‘Avigilon Value and Performance Leader Award’ in Las Vegas earlier this year.

SNP has also been awarded the contract to supply passenger screening services to the airport, a win that was underpinned by the reputation of SNP’s Canberra team led by Peter Georgiou. As a result, SNP is now the leading protective services provider in the ACT.

SNP’s Managing Director, Tom Roche, says the contract win for the airport of the country’s national capital is a strong acknowledgement of the company’s expertise in high technology security systems and its reputation in passenger screening services.

“The contract is prestigious and was strongly contested by some of the biggest names in the security business,” says Tom. “Against this backdrop, the win is particularly gratifying for the SNP Security team. We are very innovative in security design and importantly, our systems provide value-for-money.
“The Cardax Access Control and Avigilon CCTV system is the first major installation of this kind for SNP at an airport in Australia. The new contract for Canberra airport heightens our reputation for integrating the complete range of high performance security solutions.”

2012 welcomed the enactment of new Health and Safety Laws to be implemented across all States and Territories in Australia. They comprised of national model Work Health & Safety Act and Work Health & Safety Regulations supported by national Codes of Practice and guidance material.

National Risk, Safety & Compliance Manager of SNP Security, Tamara Bayly, strongly believes that the new laws provide greater consistency, certainty and clarity to organisations, making it easier for both employers and employees to better understand their work health and safety obligations across Australia.

“For a nationwide business like SNP, we’re now able to apply a better and uniform approach to the interpretation and enforcement of safety policies and procedures. This gives all of our employees the same health and safety standards and protection wherever they work in the country,” says Bayly.

Managing Director of SNP Security, Tom Roche, believes the introduction of a new health and safety framework is a good opportunity for all businesses to review their safety systems, ensuring workplace health and safety is of high priority in their business/es.

“SNP welcomes the move towards a more consistent approach to health and safety in the workplace.  Our safety team has taken the opportunity to review our safety management system and this has led to further development in some key areas,” says Roche.

The team has consulted with internal staff and clients to gain a holistic solution to improving SNP’s practices and sharing our knowledge and practices with our clients to ensure a safe and healthy workplace,” says Roche.

SNP Security awarded for business innovator of the year

SNP Security was presented with the NSW Business Chamber’s Roger Pysden Business Innovation Award for Excellence in the category of Innovation, at a ceremony held at Sydney Town Hall in late 2011.

The NSW Business Chamber says SNP Security was awarded for their organisational and substantial monetary investment in shifting the security industry from a traditional stance towards a more modern approach of involving education and training with an emphasis on customer service.

“SNP Security has clearly distinguished itself as an industry leader and innovator. They provide tailored solutions by meticulously assessing customer needs before implementing solutions and now they have introduced a new program investing in their own staff for the betterment of both the company and its customers”.

Managing Director of SNP, Tom Roche, says education and progression opportunities are key to improving people’s lives and businesses and these items are high on the development agendas of the company.

“This approach provides SNP with a competitive edge, giving us yet another point of difference in the market place. Internally, the education and training system will encourage staff retention, while instilling a sense of pride within our employees working in a blue collar sector,” says Roche.

“Our company motto is ‘One Team, One Company, One SNP’. We strongly believe that building a diverse and inclusive workforce is vital to our company’s ongoing success, expansion and development. We encourage, support and place employees into a nationally accredited training program which will provide them with career opportunities and transportable qualifications,” says Roche.

In conjunction with TAFE, SNP Security is in the process of assembling two nationally recognised five-year courses, the Certificate IV in Front line Management Programs and the Certificate IV in Customer Contact.

“Our people are integral to the success of our business.  We pride ourselves on our professionalism, innovation and integrity in providing the best security services to the Australian business community. Therefore, investing in our staff makes great business sense for this ongoing success,” says Roche.

New advanced solution for deterring crime

SelectaDNA recently approached SNP Security to partner with them in a trial roll out of a new anti-robbery system, for six McDonalds restaurants in New South Wales and a branch of a high profile bank in Victoria.

SelectaDNA’s Director Graham Zuill said the reason for approaching SNP Security was simple “SNP are a market leader in security in this country and recognised for their innovation, security solutions and service delivery.”

The electronics teams in both NSW and Victoria did not disappoint, with the trial getting positive feedback from both McDonalds and the bank, so much so, that McDonalds are now planning to have the system installed across a large number of the sites in NSW as the next step. This has also attracted the attention of other fast food chains and banks in the system.

UK parent company, SelectaMark Security Systems PLC, has developed the product “SelectaDNA Spray” which acts as an effective crime-deterrent by ‘tagging’ criminals and their stolen goods at the scene of the crime. This greatly enhances the likelihood of such offenders being caught and prosecuted accordingly.

The spray is mounted on the ceiling and when activated, will emit a fine mist of the SelectaDNA solution onto an offender while simultaneously notifying the local police of the incident in real-time.

The DNA solution glows blue under ultraviolet light and cannot be washed off, remaining on the offender’s skin for up to two weeks and on hair and clothing for up to six months. When the solution is analysed, the unique DNA strand present in each canister of SelectaDNA spray provides the police with irrefutable evidence linking the offender to the crime.

SNP’s Managing Director, Tom Roche, says this product is used to complement an existing comprehensive suite of security measures to increase the overall security system’s effectiveness, as a case in point with the McDonald’s restaurants.

SNP and SelectaDNA now plan to build on this success together across Australia.

SNP security officer, Mr Gol Amari, was awarded the prestigious Australian Security Valour Medal for displaying exceptional bravery at the Australian Security Medals Foundation Inc. (ASMF) awards night on 25 February 2012.

NSW Police Deputy Commissioner, Mr Nick Kaldas presented three Australian Security Medals for recognition of security operatives for outstanding act/s and/or action/s demonstrating valour, courage and decisiveness above and beyond the ‘call of duty’.

In September 2011, Gol Amiri saved the life of a young man.

Whilst patrolling on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Gol witnessed a man climbing the barbed wire between the train line and roadway. He immediately seized the man from behind preventing him from jumping. During the struggle Gol sustained numerous cuts to his arms and upper body.

The man, bleeding profusely, identified himself as an aids carrier with nothing to live for. Despite the possibility of contracting the HIV virus, Gol held the young man until emergency services arrived.

A comprehensive medical examination has revealed that Gol has not contracted HIV AIDS.

Managing Director of SNP, Tom Roche, praised Gol Amari for using his skills, intellect and initiative and for making a difference to the community and the Australian society and ultimately exemplifying excellence in security.

“We are proud of Gol for being committed to keeping our community safe, exercising due diligence and displaying exceptional bravery in an extremely perilous situation. He acted courageously and responsibly, endangering his own life to save another life,” says Roche.

Gol was a very modest recipient acknowledging that he is part of a team environment, all of whom deserve high praise for their everyday activity, and also felt honored to be in the company of such high calibre nominees from across the industry.

The team at SNP Security would also like to congratulate; Paul Maihi, Head of Crisis and Security Management, Westpac, Paul Retter, Executive Director, Office of Transport Security and Darren Kane, Director of Corporate Security & Investigations, Telstra Corporation  for their awards in recognition of service to the industry.

The award event held at Sydney Town Hall was attended by over 250 people, including a number of dignitaries, such as the NSW Police Deputy Commissioner, Mr Nick Kaldas, ASMF patron, Major General Greg Melick and the Registrar of the Security Professionals Registry, Mr Steve Mark.

SNP has launched an initiative dedicated to supporting a higher representation of female leadership throughout the company. The aim is to set a highly regarded example of workplace excellence and achievement, particularly for women.

SNP’s General Manager for People and Culture, Darlene Winston, says that SNP encompasses all aspects of leadership capability, career progression and work/life balance. The company is working towards better support for female leaders with leading-edge skills, expertise and networks and this will better equip them with the highest level capacity to lead.

“The ‘SNP Women in Leadership’ program will connect women in security, providing them with ongoing tools, support and advice at every stage of their journey to become a leader,” says Winston.

Tamara Bayly, SNP’s National Manager of Risk, Safety & Compliance, says nine years ago when she changed her career from the police force to join SNP security as a guards and patrol coordinator, she did not envisage that she would be in a national management position.

Tamara says she had been offered numerous promotions in SNP where her leadership skills were well nurtured and developed.

“I believe that a good leader must be able to communicate their vision clearly, encouraging others to follow their lead. They must communicate clearly and passionately, as passion is genuine and highly contagious”.

Darlene says Tamara displays exceptional leadership qualities, clearly defining her vision as well as  demonstrating a firm grasp on what success looks like and importantly, how to achieve it.

“Every organisation needs leaders at every level and leaders can be found and nurtured if you look for the following character traits, this is the basis of how we drive our people programs at SNP,” says Darlene.

“Tamara’s team and other colleagues have commended her for integrity, dedication, magnanimity, openness, creativity, fairness, humility and also her great sense of humour,” says Darlene.

SNP Security recently received accolades from the Minister for Indigenous Employment and Economic Development, for participating in a new program that aims to provide training and employment opportunities for indigenous Australians at Sydney Airport.

SNP’s General Manager, Aviation, Mr Andrew Bartholomew, says this program aims to halve the gap in employment outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians within a decade.

The program participants received pre-employment training and completed a Certificate II in Security Operations designed to hone in their communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and provide practical and transferable skills for security officers.

Each participant undertook 80 hours of training, including an induction to the business, and also completed two weeks of work experience and was offered a full-time position with SNP.

The program provides indigenous Australians with nationally recognised pre-vocational training, support and assistance. The program is provided at no cost to participants and assists them to find and enter employment and further education.
At present, six people have gained full-time positions with SNP.  This project has been a great example of SNP taking one step closer to integrating indigenous employment into mainstream workplaces and recruitment processes.

SNP have recruited another eight people who commenced duties in December 2011.

SAI Global Systems Excellence Awards

SNP Security was officially announced as a finalist at the SAI Global Systems Excellence Awards. Tom Roche, Managing Director of SNP Security, says that it was a great honour to be included in Awards that recognise only the best certified management systems.

“SNP Security is proud to be featured as a finalist in this year’s Awards. We have always had a high commitment to delivering quality. Our ISO 9001 certification is integral to our unique selling proposition. As a company we have invested heavily in having a modern approach to business which involves education and training,” says Roche.

Certified 15 years ago, SNP Security was one of the first security companies in Australia to use certified systems and it still continues to lead the way in maintaining high standards today. With an expansionary vision, the security company realised that one of the most important aspects of service delivery is consistency. By implementing a standardised process, this could be achieved and would also aid the pre-tendering process with large organisations.

“SNP Security has maintained long-term relationships with blue chip international companies, who require ISO 9001 as a pre-requisite for business association. As such, this has become central in our way of conducting processes and procedures,” says Roche.

SNP Security is an Australian, family-owned company that was founded in 1923 in Sydney. It offers fully integrated security solutions covering all elements of security from security offices and mobile patrols to live redundancy monitoring and electronic security, including security alarms, CCTV systems, access control and security intercom systems.

SNP Security guard, Peter Hodge, has been awarded an Australia Day Achievement Award for his service to the National Library of Australia. Hodge was presented with the award by the Director-General of the National Library of Australia, Ms Anne-Marie Schwirtlich.

Ms Schwirtlich says Peter has been in the role for more than seven years and “consistently goes the extra mile to provide assistance and support for staff.”

“Peter is well known to National Library staff for the high levels of customer service he provides in his role manning the Security Control Centre,” says Ms Schwirtlich.

“As we enter the library each morning, he somehow manages to do his busy job, greet us all by name, say good morning and hand out passes, open doors, answer the phone and handle enquiries always in his calm and unflappable manner. Peter has also ensured that a range of serious incidents have been managed professionally, minimising the potential for damage or harm to the Library and its staff

“Peter has been an outstanding contributor to the Library and his good nature, support, knowledge and professionalism are highly valued,” says Ms Schwirtlich.

Sean Giddings, SNP Security ACT Branch Manager, says it’s extremely rare for a contractor to be recognised by the National Library of Australia in this way.

“This award is an outstanding recognition of Peter’s many years of service, his can-do attitude and his approach to providing the best customer service, day in and day out.

“It also demonstrates that long-term strategic partnerships can be formed between contractors and clients to achieve mutually beneficial results,” says Giddings.

SNP recently had a chance to cement its reputation as leaders in aviation security at the CAPA Australia-Pacific Aviation Summit in Sydney on 7-9 August, 2013.

As key sponsors of the event, SNP executives Tom Roche, Andrew Bartholomew, Darlene Winston and Maria Rivera, in her newly-created role as Manager of Customer Experience, were able to engage with Australia’s foremost aviation providers, build relationships with our customers and expand SNP’s visibility amongst international players.

Rivera said that SNP was able to meet with other significant aviation players to deliberate on the direction of the industry.

“Alongside our major clients, Sydney Airport and Qantas, we met with directors from most Australian airports and a wide variety of key industry experts. By listening to their feedback, we were able to obtain insights into where the industry is moving, assisting us with better aligning our strategies with their goals,” said Rivera.

“For me, the highlight was how all airports are embracing social media and establishing a voice through initiatives like frequent flyer programs, apps and surveys. Similarly, we’re starting to expand our use of technology to support these changes.”

Rivera said she is looking forward to working closely with Sydney Airport over the next few weeks as SNP supports the launch of local Air India flights for the first time since 1997.

Following up on the success of SNP’s first Office of Transport Security training initiative in Indonesia, two more SNP Learning and Development team members have travelled to Papua New Guinea to administer a two-day training session for local aviation security staff.

Talib Younes and Bennett Prestwidge successfully delivered the workshop to more than 60 participants from eight different companies, including G4S, and key members of Qantas’ senior security management team.

Nerem Dhillon, National Learning Programs & RTO Manager at SNP, said Younes and Prestwidge were exemplary of the high standard of training OTS expects of SNP.

“By conducting our training courses in other countries and sharing our wealth of security knowledge and skills we are helping to bridge the distance between Australia and our neighbours, with the overall aim to make flying safer for all. Our dedication to this project reinforces our reputation in aviation security,” said Dhillon.

After claiming the Roger Pysden Award for Innovation in 2011, SNP has continued to innovate and is proud to have been a Finalist in the Excellence in Innovation category at the North Eastern Sydney Business Awards 2013.

Tom Roche, MD at SNP, said that SNP’s long and successful history can be directly attributed to the company’s culture of innovation.

“SNP is celebrating 90 years in business this year. Like any business that succeeds in the long-term, this hasn’t happened by accident. We understand the need to adapt and embrace change to maximise the financial and operational gains our innovative security solutions deliver to our clients,” said Roche.

Roche said that in the last decade in particular, there have been many significant changes in the security industry, while customer expectations have never been higher.
“As technology becomes a larger part in how we service our clients and engage the end customer, it is critical our business stays not just astride but ahead of these changes,” said Roche.

“Combining local knowledge and global expertise with our innovative technology and our unique culture ensures we continue to set international benchmarks. I’d like to congratulate our team on achieving this great.”

Case study: How to keep the energy when your growing company starts moving beyond the mid-market

$
0
0

Tom Roche, managing director of SNP Security, says the company excels at embracing technological changes. Photo: Rob Homer

When it comes to security services, SNP Security has its market covered: security officers, mobile patrols, alarm response, disaster-proof monitoring and electronic security form just part of its offering.

“We’re very good at identifying – from an innovation point of view – market trends in technology, embracing it quickly, and delivering it to market,” says SNP Security managing director Tom Roche, whose family founded the privately held business in 1923.

However, fostering growth in the security business – a low-margin, technology-centric one in which clients can easily shift to a rival – is no mean feat. It was a question high on the agenda of SNP, which was one of six companies to attend a University of NSW Australian Graduate School of Management mid-market consortium (sponsored by GE Capital), aimed at developing leadership, understanding customers, bolstering innovation and meeting strategic challenges.

SNP Security’s general manager of people and partner strategy, Darlene Winston, says the company’s attendees were about to present their recommendations, focused on its extensive work in the aviation sector, to SNP’s senior management group.

That strategy involves expanding its traditional security services – SNP provides passenger screening services at Sydney Airport and other terminals around Australia – into related services. For example, travellers could elect to book an SNP service officer via the company’s website to accompany a traveller with higher-care needs (such as an elderly relative) through the check-in process.

“We’ll have someone who is service-oriented – they don’t necessarily need to have a security licence – pick that person up from a designated area at the airport, take them through check-in, take them through the screening services and take them right to the boarding gate.

“So there’s peace of mind for their loved ones because once you get to customs you can’t go any further,” she says.

It is a concept that blends a strategic vision with innovation, through the use of new web technology, to foster growth – a challenge many mid-market companies regularly face.

The sector (loosely defined as companies with revenue of $10 million to $250 million) comprises just 1.4 per cent of all Australian businesses but is a major employer, accounting for one-quarter of all full-time jobs, according to GE Capital’s March 2013 Australian mid-market report.

However, it is a sector which can also be overlooked, with small business represented in cabinet (the portfolio now held by Bruce Billson, a bona fide small businessman) and big business having the lobbying power to have its voice heard loudly within the halls of government.

Many companies in the mid-market sector, still driven by that initial entrepreneurial energy, remain privately held, giving them a longer-term outlook that allows them to see through downturns without having to make radical changes to keep shareholders happy.

“They’re last in to a downturn and first out of one,” says Aaron Baxter, managing director, commercial, of GE Capital Australia and New Zealand, which firmly targets the sector. “They’ve been deleveraging their balance sheet over the last few years so as things pick up, they’re in a good position to go after growth here and internationally.”

Many mid-market companies also have low overhead structures, which gives them an initial competitive leg-up, and management, including the owners, often retain close customer relationships. But maintaining those strengths in a growing company remains an ongoing challenge.

Two of SNP Security’s most senior executives have put each other to the test, hiking, biking and rowing across more than 100km of rugged Southern NSW coastline to raise money and awareness for The Smith Family Challenge [7-8 March, 2014].

SNP Security MD, Tom Roche, participated in The Smith Family Challenge for his sixth consecutive year while GM People & Partner Strategy, Darlene Winston, took part in the first ever all female team to enter the competition. The event coincided with a number of events SNP Security held to mark International Women’s Day 2014 with staff and clients.

Roche says the friendly competition inspired the SNP teams to raise almost $80,000 of the $430,000 total donated in this year’s The Smith Family Challenge.

“SNP Security is a company that is dedicated to leading the way for community advocacy and sustainability in all areas of our business. This year’s The Smith Family Challenge coincided with International Women’s Day, another annual event in which we work with key partners to raise awareness,” says Roche.

Winston says she relished the opportunity to be involved for the benefit of two important community initiatives.

“Three members of the iLead Talent Exchange joined me in what was the first female-only team to take part in The Smith Family Challenge. We definitely held our own against some very experienced teams and I can certainly say that we’ll be back next year with our eyes on the prize. Congratulations to the rest of the teams on a job well done and the record amount raised for The Smith Family,” says Winston.

Outstanding bravery recognised at security awards

Two SNP Security Officers, Jovan Jovanov and Mahmoud Nemra, have received Australian Security Valour Medals (ASVM) at the 2014 Australian Security Medals Foundation Charity Dinner at the Sydney Opera House last night [21 March, 2014].

Tom Roche, Managing Director at SNP Security, says Jovanov and Nemra displayed exceptional bravery in two separate security incidents in January, 2014.

The Australian Security Valour Medal (ASVM) is awarded to between one and 10 security personnel each year and recognises examples of outstanding valour, courage and decisiveness. This year only 5 medals were awarded.

“It is a tremendous achievement for two SNP Security guards to receive this accolade in the same year. I am very proud of Jovan and Mahmoud and would like to congratulate them for being handpicked by the industry for their professionalism during these incidents,” says Roche.

On 22 January, 2014, Jovanov and two other guards stationed at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, Canberra, responded to an urgent call for assistance at the nearby Tent Embassy. Jovanov was credited with stopping a dog attack and disarming an assailant, saving an elderly man’s life in the process.

Jovanov says he felt a duty to respond to the off-site incident.

“I could instantly tell that the situation was serious. It’s not every day that we have to deal with an incident like this, but in these situations your training takes over and you do whatever you can to take control,” says Jovanov.

On 20 January, 2014, Nemra was on guard at Bankstown Station when he was approached by six boys followed by a group of up to 30 youths. Nemra secured the boys in a locked office and prevented the youths from harming anyone by physically blocking the doorway. Nemra controlled the situation for ten minutes until Police arrived.

Mahmoud says he simply did what anyone would have done under the circumstances.

“It all happened very quickly. My priority was to prevent anyone from getting hurt. I feel very lucky that no-one was injured, including myself, but I would do it again in a heartbeat,” says Nemra.

Roche says both Jovanov and Nemra displayed decisive action under pressure in these circumstances, but on a day-to-day basis typify SNP’s mission ethos to of “Expect the Unexpected. We Do.”.

“Jovan and Mahmoud showed great courage in their actions during these two incidents and in my opinion are well deserving of Australian Security Valour Medals,” says Roche.

Sustainability Advantage Silver Accreditation

SNP Security’s commitment to sustainable practices has resulted in accrediting our company as a Silver Partner in – NSW Government Sustainability Advantage program.

SNP Security achieved the accreditation in March 2014 after introducing a range of environmental initiatives in 2013, contributing to a 10% reduction in energy and water usage and a 20% increase in recycled waste at SNP Security’s West Ryde head office. This coincided with the implementation of a new fleet of hybrid vehicles during this period, resulting in a 15% decrease in SNP Security’s overall fuel usage.

Tom Roche, Managing Director at SNP Security, says recognition from the NSW Government for SNP Security’s sustainable practices is a positive step forward for the security company.

“We have made substantial in-roads with our sustainability programs over the last two years. With more initiatives and reductions planned for 2014, we look forward to moving closer to our next goal of Gold status and continuing to lead the way for the security industry in corporate social responsibility,” says Roche.

Roche says that SNP Security’s new branding, “Expect the Unexpected. We do.”, encompasses the company’s commitment to providing unexpected service that goes above and beyond the expectations of clients and communities. This award reinforces our approach.

“A key component of our new slogan is our dedication to implementing the highest standard of sustainable practices and minimising our environmental footprint wherever possible,” says Roche.

SNP Security has recently focused on ensuring that all new procurement contracts are aligned with the company’s commitments to sustainability, encouraging suppliers to expand their own Corporate Social Responsibility programs.

“We are working in close partnership with our major suppliers to incorporate a philosophy of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ across all areas of our businesses. Together we will ensure a sustainable future for the benefit of generations to come,” says Roche.

Recently Jovan Jovanov, an SNP Security officer at Old Parliament House, was awarded the Australian Security Medal of Valour for his heroic and selfless actions when intervening in an attack on an elderly man occurring just outside his work site earlier this year.

Canberra Times reporter Megan Gorrey interviewed Jovan and had him recall the day the security officer went above and beyond to save the life of a man being brutally attacked and deescalated the situation before any more serious injuries could occur.
